Chris Christie
Wrong for Building Trades
Wrong for New Jersey

Here is what Christ Christ would do in his first days as Governor

Chris Christie: I will end PLAs. Christie's websites proclaims that he will: "Eliminate special interest labor union giveaways that increase spending and taxes. The requirement to use "project labor agreements" (PLAs) on many public construction projects substantially increases construction costs without delivering a single public benefit. The Christie administration will end the use of PLAs which create inexcusable waste on public construction projects and are a tool for political favoritism at a time when the economy is shedding jobs and taxpayers are struggling to make ends meet." Christie called PLAs "an inexcusable amount of waste." At a February press conference, Christie said: "We also have to end project labor agreements. All they do is add substantial costs without delivering a single public benefit and we have to end these PLAs because they create, in my view, an inexcusable amount of waste of public construction projects. You know, uh, Star-Ledger concluded, in a recent report, that using PLAs in school construction corporation programs, that the cost of using them was the equivalent of five additional Abbott district elementary schools. And I would like to find what we got in return for that additional expenditure of money." [Christie press conference, 2/26/2009]

Christie said that he would eliminate special interest labor union loopholes in the campaign finance system. On his campaign website, Christie proclaims: "I will strengthen our weak 'pay to play' laws by eliminating special interest labor union loopholes to ensure labor unions are treated just like any other.
